Frequently Asked Questions

What is it that chiropractors do?
At Posture Advanced Chiropractic our main goal is to eliminate the abnormal stress set up on your joints, muscles, discs, ligaments, and most importantly your nervous system. We do this by correcting abnormal postures and restructuring the spine to a normal (or near normal as possible) healthy position. Chiropractors are doctors of the nervous system who take an orthopedic approach. Remember if we can relax the nervous system by reducing abnormal posture, your body will have the best advantage to heal and function optimally. The structure of your spine dictates your body's function.

So, do you just focus on the spine?
No. Although many problems in the extremities can stem from problems in the spine—it is the core of the body—we work with all the joints in the body. Sometimes it can even be a combination of both the spine and an extremity that's causing a problem. We have had great success with the following extremity conditions:

Bursitis, tendonitis, sprains, strains (of the ankles, knees, plantar fascitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, frozen shoulder syndrome, myositis, myalgia, TMJ disorders, golfer's elbow, and tennis elbow.

Many times these injuries are sports related. Whether you are a weekend warrior or a professional athlete, it is important that you seek care from someone with experience in sports injuries. Dr. Garde has over 30 years of experience, which includes working with Olympic and national caliber athletes and serious amateur athletes. Evaluating and treating hundreds of such injuries has given Dr. Garde the ability to normalize the joint mechanics and maximize range of motion to speed your recovery. As all athletes know, this is priceless when it comes to competing.

If you are suffering from any such injuries, schedule an appointment with Dr. Garde for a consultation to see if he may be able to aid in your recovery.

Do kids need chiropractic care?
Yes! One of the biggest mistakes parents make is waiting too long to have their kids evaluated. Many of the problems and abnormal postures we have as adults are a result of birth traumas, childhood falls and other injuries. Ensuring that a child's spine grows symmetrically will guarantee a healthy and active spine well into adulthood. No child is too young to be evaluated. At Posture Advanced Chiropractic we have helped infants and children with a variety of problems from headaches to ear infections.

Posture Advanced Chiropractic runs a backpack awareness week as children start back to school. Ask the doctors for more information.

I've heard that if you see a chiropractor once you have to keep going, is this true?
It is possible. Some patients are unwilling to modify some postural habits that help correct their spine. In this case, we would recommend keeping your posture checked frequently. Otherwise, our main goal is to correct your problem beyond the resolution of symptoms. If you choose the "fix care" option and your spine has been restructured to normal or as near normal as possible and you have been educated on proper ergonomics, sleeping and driving habits, you have a choice to continue on a maintenance program.

Science has provided evidence for maintenance care, mainly because your structure has been weakened and will have a tendency to go back to an abnormal position. Now some will choose our "patch care" option. With this choice the frequency and duration in our office cannot be determined. Since we are "patching" the problem as opposed to "fixing," there may be a need for indefinite visits to the office.

How frequently you visit us is dependent on you and the changes that you are willing to make. Your health is your responsibility. Many choose to maintain their posture with adjustments because they understand the relationship between a healthy structure and optimum function. Our mission and commitment to you, if you so choose, is to restructure your spine back to a healthy configuration and to teach you how maintain it, not to create a dependency!
